If you have students who are using Sumdog in both their numeracy and literacy classes, there are a couple ways you can set them up.
Please note: we do not recommend creating additional accounts for the same student.
Select the option you'd like to read more about:
- Option 1: Use "Classes" for Registration/Homeroom and "Groups" for subjects
- Option 2: One subject uses "Classes" and the other uses "Groups" (recommended if you'd like to enter your math classes into Sumdog Contests)
Option 1: Use "Classes" for Registration/Homeroom and "Groups" for subjects
How it works: You set up all students in general registration/homeroom classes. The Math and English teachers then arrange their students into groups
See our help page on creating groups for full instructions on setting up groups.
Pros:
-
Using groups to rearrange students in existing classes prevents accidental duplicate accounts
-
The Class Roster page is tidy
-
You can upload all registration/homeroom classes at once, ensuring every student has an account
-
Students can be in multiple groups
Cons:
-
If you want to enter Sumdog's contests, they'll be entered under their registration/homeroom class, not their math class.
Option 2: One subject uses "Classes" and the other uses "Groups"
How it works: One department (e.g. Math) sets up classes, and the other (e.g. English) uses groups to organize students. If you want to enter your math classes in a Sumdog Math Contest, we recommend using classes for math and groups for English.
See our help page on creating groups for full instructions on setting up groups.
Pros:
-
Math and English students are clearly separated into two distinct spaces
-
You can enter Sumdog's Math Contests as math classes
Cons:
-
You need to agree which department uses classes and which uses groups and maintain it
-
One department (e.g. English) has to wait for the other (e.g. Maths) to add new students to a class before they can organize them into a group.
