Fluency Booster, our brand new adaptive maths fluency practice tool, is now available! Designed to help teachers consolidate core number skills and build maths fluency with ongoing, varied practice, Fluency Booster ensures students develop a strong foundation in number skills and identifies areas for improvement to inform teachers’ next steps.
We recommend using it for 30 minutes per week to reinforce learning effectively.
What is Fluency Booster?
Maths fluency is about developing number sense and the ability to use strategies accurately and efficiently, while also being flexible and able to apply those strategies in different contexts.
Fluency Booster is an adaptive practice tool focused on core number skills. It helps students develop fluency through structured, engaging, and varied practice. Instead of relying solely on memorisation, it builds number sense, strengthens relationships between numbers, and develops flexible problem-solving strategies.
With the introduction of Fluency Booster, when students are working on Sumdog-assigned questions rather than work a teacher has set, they will be working on Fluency.
Skills Covered
Fluency Booster focuses on Years 1-6 / 1st & 2nd Levels / Grades K-5. Learning is focused on foundational number skills, specifically:
✔️ Number & Place Value
✔️ Counting and Number Patterns
✔️ Number Bonds & Relationships
✔️ Arithmetic
It does not include:
❌ Geometry
❌ Measurement
❌ Statistics
❌ Word Problems or Applied Maths Questions
Teachers will still be able to set work on these areas of maths, and on KS3/Third and Fourth Level/Grades 6-8, as previously.
While Fluency Booster is designed for younger students, it offers more complex number skills suitable for older students who need to consolidate core number fluency.
